The work of Grube and Schiedt (1930) on the equilibrium diagram of the system shows th at the area occupied by this superlattice extends, on the magnesium-rich side of Mg3Cd, to 16 atomic % cadmium at 100° C. Although no superlattice lines could be detected on the photographs in the present work, other work has shown th at the superlattice rearrangement occurs at room temperature. I t is probable that the ordering process is beginning to occur in the region 10-16 atomic % cadmium, with a consequent diminution in the strain attendant on solid solution of cadmium in magnesium.…”
