Die Gentamicin-Sensibilität der gramnegativen «Problemkeime» und Staphylokokken, nachgewiesen mittels Reihenverdünnungstest

Abstract

A total of 716 strains of the following bacterial species have been tested for their susceptibility to gentamicin: 114 Pseudomonas pyocyanea, 100 Escherichia coli, 100 Proteus mirabilis, 100 Klebsiella pneumoniae, 100 Staphylococcus aureus, 59 Proteus morganii, 45 Proteus vulgaris, 39 Serratia marcescens, 29 Salmonella of the Enteritis group, 17 Salmonella typhi, 7 Salmonella paratyphi B, 6 Proteus rettgeri. Using a tube dilution method it was illustrated that, except for Proteus mirabilis, gentamicin susceptibility of the tested strains remains basically unchanged and favorable. Bacteriostatic and bactericidal concentrations of the drug proved to be very close, if not identical. Since there is, in single cases, a possibility of development of resistance even in usually gentamicin-susceptible germs, sensitivity testing is recommended in each treatment with this antibiotic.
