Diet and exercise interventions for individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes: a scoping review protocol

Abstract: IntroductionGlobal rates of type 2 diabetes (T2D) are on the rise and there is a need for both effective and replicable interventions to decrease this incidence. Systematic reviews highlight the efficacy of diet and exercise interventions in decreasing T2D risk; however, no review to date provides clear information regarding intervention details (eg, what is delivered, by whom, to whom, when, and mode of delivery). This paper outlines the protocol for a scoping review summarising intervention characteristics o… Show more

“…The global incidence of diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes, is increasing annually. Patients with diabetes often experience multiple complications, and in severe cases, these complications can cause premature death [47]. Therefore, it is essential to activity guide patients with diabetes toward a healthy lifestyle, which includes regular PA, to prevent cardiovascular complications and other adverse outcomes [48,49].…”

“…From the included studies and using a data extraction tool inspired by the standardised tool TIDieR checklist, the authors will provide a descriptive summary of interventions facilitating and enhancing the involvement of relatives through the course of disease to patients with an ABI or MBT. Using tools such as the TIDieR checklist allows researchers to use a common language when reporting the design of their interventions and ensures that there is enough information present to allow for replicability of interventions, thus allowing for an increased ability to implement research results into practice 21 23…”

“…Clinically, diabetes is a kind of chronic metabolic disease [ 53 , 54 ], often accompanied by complications such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic foot and cardiovascular disease [ 54 , 55 , 56 ], which are extremely harmful to human health. Exercise, dietary intervention and drug therapy are generally used for the treatment of diabetes [ 57 , 58 ]. In terms of drug treatment, insulin, metformin, glimepiride and other drugs are generally used clinically, but they would also lead to some adverse reactions such as hypotension, obesity, etc.…”
