Dietary supplementation effects ofPediococcus acidilacticias probiotic on growth performance, digestive enzyme activities and immunity response in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Abstract: This study was carried out to assess the effects of Pediococcus acidilactici on zebrafish (Danio rerio). Different levels of P. acidilactici including 0, 1 × 106, 2 × 106, 4 × 106 and 8 × 106 colony‐forming unit per g of the diet (cfug−1) were examined in fish with 120 ± 10 mg weight for 60 days in a completely randomized design. The results showed that the best growth indices were recorded in group 4 × 106 cfug−1 (p < 0.05). The highest number of total viable count and lactic acid bacteria of intestine were f… Show more

“…Also, some studies have reported the positive effects of Pediococcus spp. on growth performance and the immune response in shrimp (Adel, Yeganeh, Dawood, Safari, & Radhakrishnan, ; Castex, Lemaire, Wabete, & Chim, , ) and fish species (Al‐Hisnawi et al, ; Ashouri et al, ; Azimirad, Meshkini, Ahmadifard, & Hoseinifar, ; Ghiasi et al, ; Mohammadi Arani, Salati, Safari, & Keyvanshokooh, ; Torrecillas et al, ). However, there are few studies about supplementing B. cereus or P. acidilactici to the shrimp diet (Castex, Lemaire, Wabete, & Chim, , ; Hao et al, ; NavinChandran et al, ) and no study about these probiotics in the earthen ponds.…”

“…An approximately 25% of the aquarium water was removed daily and replaced with well-aerated freshwater. The experiment was conducted in the 14:10h light–dark cycles ( Mohammadi Arani et al, 2019 ). Water temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen were monitored daily and maintained approximately at 25±2°C, 7±0.2, and 7.9±0.1mgL −1 , respectively ( Safari et al, 2018 ).…”

“…At the end of the feeding trial, fish in each tank fasted for 24h, and then 10 fish per aquarium (30 fish per treatment) were randomly sampled. They were immediately anesthetized using 200mgL −1 clove powder and their weight and length were measured at accuracy levels of 0.001g and 1mm, respectively ( Mohammadi Arani et al, 2019 ). The growth and survival of the fish were monitored based on the following standard formula ( Abedian-Amiri et al, 2017 ):…”

“…Previous studies showed that probiotics supplementation in aquaculture results in increasing growth and feed digestibility. Probiotics increase digestive enzyme activity (Enferadi et al 2018;Valiallahi et al 2018;Arani et al 2019), increase immunity against pathogens (Amir et al 2019;Zhu et al 2019), and improve the water quality of culture media (Elsabagh et al 2018;Kewcharoen and Srisapoome 2019).…”
