Dietary supplementation of Aspergillus oryzae meal and its effect on performance, carcass characteristics, blood variables, and immunity of broiler chickens

Abstract: This study investigated the effect of different levels and consumption periods of Aspergillus oryzae meal on performance, carcass characteristics, blood variables, and immunity of broiler chickens. A total of 270 (male and female) Ross 308 chicks were randomly assigned to 9 treatment groups. Two levels (2 g/kg diet and 4 g/kg diet as-fed) of Aspergillus oryzae meal (AO) and 4 consumption periods of AO (starter, grower, finisher, and entire period) in a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement were used. Compared with contr… Show more

“…The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization define probiotics as live microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host when administered in adequate doses ( Hill et al., 2014 ). Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus ( Incharoen et al., 2019 ), Bacillu s ( Al-Fataftah and Abdelqader, 2014 ), Bifidobacterium ( Wang et al., 2020a ), Aspergillus niger ( Lin et al., 2020 ), and Aspergillus oryzae ( Zahirian et al., 2019 ), commonly used in livestock and poultry, have many beneficial effects, mainly including killing or suppressing pathogenic bacteria, promoting nutrient utilization, enhancing intestinal barrier function, regulating immune response, and improving intestinal microbiota. Traditional Chinese medicine ( TCM ) has been regarded as an invaluable source of therapeutic agents and played an important role in maintaining both human and animal health ( Mishra and Tiwari, 2011 ).…”

“…The increase in the plasma Mn concentration is possibly due to high intestinal absorption of organic Mn. Igs play a key role in the immune system (Zahirian et al, 2019). For example, IgG is present in high levels in the blood and extracellular fluids, contributing to vital functions in antibody-mediated defence, as well as in the neutralization of toxins, immobilization of bacteria, sensitization of natural killer cells and activation of the complement system (Tizard, 2013).…”
