“…Most of the yellow perch [ Perca flavescens (Mitchill, 1814)] collected during the electrofishing survey appeared to be age‐1 fish. Metabarcoding results for these young yellow perch support previous findings that this life stage has a diverse diet, and larval fishes are a particularly important prey for juvenile yellow perch (Parke, Uzarski, Ruetz III, & Burton, ). Diets of minnows and chubs (Family: Cyprinidae) were quite diverse, but largely characterized by small dipteran larvae, consistent with past studies (Johnson, ; Quist, Bower, & Hubert, ).…”

“…Spatial variation in diets plausibly would be even more pronounced if we would have included more dissimilar sites. For example, age-0 yellow perch collected in nearshore wetlands of Saginaw Bay consumed prey items not documented in this study (Parker et al 2009b;C.R. Roswell, unpublished data).…”

“…PCB-uptake in fish is likely mediated by diet (Madenjian et al, 2000). The diets of yellow perch and largemouth bass in the Hudson River were likely similar, as adults primarily consume macro invertebrates and fish (Fullhart et al, 2002;Olson and Young, 2003;Parker et al, 2009). Thus, a predictive equation using simple linear regression was computed to predict mean annual PCB concentrations in the tissues of yellow perch from largemouth bass PCB concentrations.…”
