Differences in Biometric Fetal Weight Estimation Accuracy and Doppler Examination Results in Uncomplicated Term Singleton Pregnancies between Vertex and Breech Presentation

Abstract: Doppler examination of the umbilical artery and the fetal middle cerebral artery is evaluated predominantly in pregnancies with fetuses in cephalic presentation and never has been elucidated in breech presentation. Evidence on the accuracy of fetal weight estimation in dependence of the fetal presentation is controversial. Nevertheless, clinical decisions including recommendations for a cesarean section or labor induction based on these examinations are applied to pregnancies with fetuses in breech presentatio… Show more

“…Of course, the inaccuracy of fetal weight estimation has to be noted. In breech as in vertex presentation the inaccuracy is estimated to be 5–10% [ 25 , 26 ]. Because fetal morbidity is not associated with a high birth weight/CVO ratio, cesarean section indications do not arise.…”

“…Spectral-Doppler-based ultrasound medical devices have the potential to be used for pre-screening various vascular diseases such as diabetes, vascular stenosis, arterial stiffness, and so on. There are various study results showing the pre-diagnosis of vascular diseases by monitoring hemodynamics via ultrasound [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. These diagnosis modalities have a common feature, that is, a spectrogram or a wavelet transform spectrum is utilized to assess hemodynamics status, which can reflect structural and functional changes in a vessel.…”
