Differences in spatial structure of villages of commune ksiezpol with regard to parcel shape index

Abstract: The spatial structure of rural areas in eastern Poland is characterized by large fragmentation of privately owned farmland, as well as the scattering of parcels across villages and beyond their boundaries. An important defect is also the unfavourable shape of land parcels, which hampers and sometimes even makes impossible rational management of land in a given area. Shape analysis has been the focus of numerous publications in fields such as geography and ecology, and, more recently, also geodesy. Previous stu… Show more

“…Computation should indicate the extent of deviation of the current shape boundary with reference to a circular shape (Demetriou et al , 2013): Parcel spatial index (PSI): Parcel specific properties were combined together to represent the shape complexity. As per Postek (2018), PSIs for construction structures in villages are calculated with a weight factor of 40 and perimeter and area are used in the calculation. It can be called as a weighted SI.…”

“…Empirical results suggest that there can be a spatial index (SI) computed based on the basic geometry properties such as area and perimeter and also there can be parcel-specific SI computed based on the other parcel properties. These index values have been computed with a weight factor that was taken with reference to the ground truth value and GIS expert opinions (Li et al, 2013;Ruiz-Lendínez et al, 2017;Postek, 2018). With the area difference and the error statistics, it is evident that both the conversion methods have inaccuracies of different degree.…”
