Differences of Clinical Features and Prognosis between Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Necrotizing Pneumonia and Non-Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Necrotizing Pneumonia in Children

Abstract: BackgroundIn the past few years, Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infection has been reported more in China . However, there are few studies on the clinical characteristics and prognosis of necrotizing pneumonia (NP) caused by different pathogens. MethodsA retrospective analysis was performed, including 31 children with a clinical diagnosis of NP in the hospital from January 1, 2013 to January 31, 2020. A total of 11 children with MPNP were included in the observation group and the other 20 children with other patho… Show more

“…The incidence of M. pneumonia ‐associated NP appears to be increasing according to recent reports, particularly in China 25,26 . Yang et al 27 found that the clinical symptoms and prognosis of M. pneumonia NP were much better than those of non‐ M. pneumonia NP, which is consistent with the findings of our study.…”

“…Previous data showed that the level of IL-6 in the acute stage was significantly higher than those in the recovery stage, and it could be used as a reference index for the assessment of disease severity. 29 Maturation and releasing of IL-1β also related with cytoadherence ability of M. pneumoniae upon infection. This result suggested that the cytoadherence ability of M. pneumoniae activated immune responses and was involved in the pathogenesis of M. pneumoniae infection.…”

“…It is estimated that more than 2 million children under 5 years of age die from pneumonia each year, accounting for 20% of the annual deaths in this age group. [1][2][3] Treatment of pneumonia includes antimicrobial drugs, supportive management with supplemental oxygen, intravenous fluids, and antipyretics. Immunization, breastfeeding, adequate nutrition and good hygiene can help prevent pneumonia.…”
