Different Numbers of Long-Pulse 1064-nm Nd-YAG Laser Treatments for Onychomycosis: A Pilot Study

Abstract: Purpose. To examine the benefits of different numbers of 1064-nm Nd-YAG laser treatments in patients with onychomycosis. Methods. This was a pilot study of patients with onychomycosis who were divided into three groups: four treatment sessions (group A), eight sessions (group B), and 12 sessions (group C). Only infected nails of degrees II–III (Scoring Clinical Index for Onychomycosis) were included. Treatment was given once a week using a long-pulse Nd-YAG 1064-nm laser. Patients were followed at 8, 16, and 2… Show more

“…Both groups were divided into three subgroups according to laser energy: 300, 408, and 600 J/cm 2 . Based on a previous study [ 18 ], 300 J/cm 2 is similar to the energy used clinically, 408 J/cm 2 is a little higher than the clinical energy, and 600 J/cm 2 is significantly higher than the clinical energy. Laser irradiation was administrated in a spiral pattern with a total of 200 spots (as shown in Fig.…”

“…Reduced GSH is usually depleted in diseases associated with increased oxidative stress and inflammation, and NAC can maintain the antioxidant stress in vivo by restoring reduced GSH in cells. 9 The GOLD 2017 recommendation also suggests that NAC has the effect of reducing the number of acute episodes in COPD patients. 10 This study was performed to observe the pulmonary function of patients with a severe stable phase of COPD who were treated with budesonide and formoterol combined with or without NAC.…”

Our results demonstrated that the inhalation treatment of NAC combined with budesonide/formoterol significantly improved pulmonary function, blood gas analysis, serum oxidative stress, inflammation levels, and quality of life in patients with COPD compared with budesonide/formoterol inhalation alone.…”
