“…This systematic review included publications investigating the association between ADHD and addictive-like eating behavior such as loss of control overeating, binge eating, and preoccupation with food, which are the main FA symptoms, and some DSM-5 EDs (eating disorders mentioned in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth edition) such as BN and BED, which show high FA prevalence [19,20].…”

“…On the other hand, it shares features with binging type ED, such as eating a large amount of food in a discrete period of time, and a sense of lack of control overeating during this episode [18]. In fact, FA is over-represented among EDs, especially the binging/overeating types (BN, BED and binging subtype AN [19,20]), but can also be present when no ED is diagnosed. According to Maxwell, Gardiner and Loxton (2020), FA and binge eating are associated with impulsivity, and "there seems to be a pattern emerging regarding overconsumption of food, task effort and lack of inhibition control, specifically that FA is associated with an inability to put the "brakes" on behavior" [21].…”

“…In this study, we consider behavioral addiction as the following: gambling disorder (as defined in the DSM-V); gaming disorder; somatic addictions (those related to instinctual behaviors or linked to bodily functions), including sex addiction, shopping/buying addiction, food addiction and exercise addiction; and behaviors related to technology and communication, including mobile phone addiction, internet use addiction and problematic internet use ( Arslan and Kirazli, 2019 , Derevensky et al, 2019 , Di Lodovico et al, 2019 , El Archi et al, 2020 , Grubbs et al, 2020 , Ste-Marie et al, 2006 , Yau et al, 2014 ). In this study, we chose to “package” the addictions related to technology and communication under the name of “ITC (information and communication technologies)-related disorders” (ITC onwards).…”

“…For instance, rats will continue to exhibit a high motivation to obtain palatable food rewards in the presence of an aversive foot shock ( Leigh and Morris, 2018 ), and mice will spend more time in an adverse environment that was previously associated with palatable food ( Teegarden and Bale, 2007 ). Excessive or insufficient food intake can also become pathological and thus diagnosed as an eating disorder ( El Archi et al, 2020 ; Oterdoom et al, 2018 ), which can often be comorbid with symptoms of anhedonia ( Bolton et al, 2018 ; Dolan et al, 2022 ; Murray et al, 2022 ).…”
