Abstract:There are many possible differential diagnoses for the patient with a red eye. This article provides a pragmatic approach to the diagnosis and management of red eye, the most common eye problem presenting to primary care.1,2 The authors describe how to take a history and examine a red eye in primary care, highlighting the red flag symptoms and signs that indicate an urgent ophthalmology referral is required.
