Differential expression and function of the caveolin-1 gene in non-small cell lung carcinoma

Abstract: Abstract. This study was designed to clarify the function of caveolin-1 (Cav-1) in the development of lung cancer by investigating the mutation and protein expression of the Cav-1 gene in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Quantum dot immunofluorescence histochemistry was used to evaluate Cav-1 protein expression and subcellular localization in the lung cancer tissue microarray including 140 cases of lung cancer and 20 cases of non-cancerous lung tissue. Mutation of the Cav-1 gene in exon 1 and exon 3 was … Show more

“…In addition to its relationship with lymph node metastasis, CAV-1-positive tumors were more likely to be a more advanced stage and less differentiated, which is similar to a study by Wang et al [30] that analyzed 185 lung adenocarcinomas as well as by Chen et al [34] that included 140 NSCLC tissues. These results are also consistent with those reported in a recent meta analysis in which CAV-1 expression was significantly higher in poorly differentiated tumors, and high CAV-1 expression was associated with tumor stage and differentiation, lymph node metastasis, and chemotherapeutic response [20].…”

“…Caveolae are present in all cell types in the lung, including ECs, epithelial cells, smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts, telocytes, and macrophages [55, 56]. Recent research implicated caveolae and Cav1 in pathogenesis of human lung disease [45, 57, 58], neurodegenerative diseases [59], and lung cancer [60, 61]. Not only Cav1, but also the ubiquitously expressed ITSN-1s, a major protein of lung tissue, has been related to lung inflammatory conditions [62], to endosomal disorders associated with the earliest pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's diseases [63] as well as cancer [64, 65].…”

“…The polymorphism in the promoter may affect the expression of CAV-1. In non-small cell lung carcinoma, the expression of CAV-1 was statistically correlated with pathologic TNM stage and lymph node metastasis [31] because poly- Lin (2014) Liu (2011) Wu (2011) Bau (2011) Tsou (2011) Yang (2010) Wang (2013) Bau (2011) Wang (2014) Chang (2013) Hsu ( Chang (2013) Hsu (2013) Tosu (2011) Wang (2014) Wang (2013) Liu (2011) Wu (2011) Bau (2011) Yang (2010) Bau (2011) Zhang ( Chang (2013) Hsu (2013) Tosu (2011) Wang (2014) Liu (2011) Wu (2011) Bau (2011) Yang (2010) 0.92 0.94 1.01 1.08 1.10…”
