Differential Pulse Polarographic Determination of Zinc and Manganese in Commercial Sodium Salts and Water Samples after Preconcentration of Their 2-(2-Pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol Chelates Using Ammonium Tetraphenylborate-Naphthalene Adsorbent

Abstract: A highly sensitive, rapid and economical differential pulse polarographic method was developed for the simultaneous determination of trace amounts of zinc and manganese in commercial sodium salts, mineral water, human hair and environmental waste liquid and solid samples. Ammonium tetraphenylborate-microcrystalline naphthalene coprecipitate, loaded in a plastic syringe-type cartridge (i.d. 10 mm, length 100 mm), was used as a column for the preconcentration of zinc and manganese as their 2-(2-pyridylazo)-5-die… Show more

“…Electrochemical methods possess multielement detection and speciation capability and need instrumentation of relatively low acquisition, maintenance and operation costs. Using differential pulse or square wave anodic stripping voltammetry techniques, limits of detection lower than the regulatory levels of concentrations of heavy metals can usually be reached [19,20].…”

“…The electrochemical methods possess multi-element detection capability and require instrumentation of low cost and low maintenance. Using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) technique using static mercury drop electrode (SMDE) very low detection limit for many metal ions with wide linear range [18][19] can also be obtained.…”

“…Furthermore, it reduces consumption of and exposure to solvent and disposal costs. A number of different solid sorbents such as naphthalene [3,4,5], cellulose [6], C 18 -bonded silica membrane discs [7], silica gel [8,9], glass beads [10,11,12], silica frit [13], metal hydroxides [14], activated carbon [15,16] and polymer supports [17,18] have been investigated for the preconcentration of trace metals.…”
