Difficulties in Identification of Сomamonas Kerstersii Strains Isolated From Intestinal Microbiota of Residents of Republic of Guinea and Russian Federation

Abstract: The Сomamonas genus, described in 1985, included one species — Сomamonas terrigena. At present, the Сomamonas genus includes  21 species. The ability of Comamonas to survive in environmental  objects (samples of water, soil and plants), including hospital  environment and medical equipment, allows them to be considered  as opportunistic microorganisms. The purpose of the research was to study the biological properties and antimicrobial susceptibility of  Сomamonas kerstersii strains isolated from fecal samples… Show more

“…Biochemical characteristics of isolated microorganisms were determined using an automatic microbiological analyzer Vitek 2 Compact (BioMerieux, France) using ID-GN cards (Gramnegative microorganisms). The cultures were grown on Columbia blood agar for 24 hours at a temperature of 25-30 °C, and a suspension of strains with a McFarland density of 0.50-0.63 was prepared using a Densichek plus densitometer (Sendle, Russia) [29].…”

“…The optical density was determined using a DensiCHEK plus densimeter (Bio-Merieux, Marcy-l'Étoile, France). The suspension was added to GN cards, which can identify a wide range of Gramnegative microorganisms [44].…”

“…C. kerstersi species are non-fermenting, gram-negative, rod shaped bacillus (Kumar et al;Opota et al 2014b;Voitenkova et al 2018;Zhou et al 2018;Almuzara et al 2018;Wu et al 2018;Liu et al 2020b, a;Onya et al 2020a, b;S et al 2020;Farfán-Cano et al 2021;Rong et al 2022). 24 hours of incubation in ambient aerobic environment shows the growth of the species (Zhou et al 2018).…”

“…Better observation can be done if incubated for 48 hours and usually colonies have a diameter of 1-2 mm and seem translucent, smooth-surfaced, and nonpigmented (Zhou et al 2018;Palacio et al 2020). C. kerstersii has previously been considered nonpathogenic (Jiang et al, 2018;Liu et al, 2020b;Opota et al, 2014b;Rong et al, 2022;Voitenkova et al, 2018). It is extensively found in soil, plants, and water with the ability to withstand aquatic environment (Farfán-Cano et al 2021;Mandal et al 2022;Rong et al 2022;Wang et al 2024).…”
