Diffraction specific coherent panoramagrams of real scenes

Abstract: We have previously introduced the Diffraction Specific Coherent Panoramagram -a multi-view holographic stereogram that provides correct visual accommodation as well as smooth motion parallax with far fewer views than a normal stereogram. This method uses scene depth information to generate directionally-varying wavefront curvature, and can be computed at interactive rates using off-the-shelf graphics processors. In earlier work we used z-buffer information associated with parallax views rendered from synthetic… Show more

“…In this display a multi-view holographic stereogram is produced in what is termed a diffraction specific coherent (DSC) panoramagram [81]. This provides a sufficiently large number of discrete views to provide the impression of smooth motion parallax.…”

“…Using consumer-grade range cameras (such as the Primesense structured-light 3-D scanner contained in Microsoft's Kinect peripheral), we have previously demonstrated the utility of the DSC Panoramagram approach in rendering holographic images of real scenes at real-time rates. 6 Figure 3 depicts the high-level pipeline used for scene capture via a single Kinect camera and holographic fringe pattern computation via the DSC Panoramagram approach.…”

“…So, the light intensity of each image pixel, and its original distance from the camera, is fed to a PC and then over the Internet. At the receiving end, a PC with commercial GPUs computes the diffraction patterns [92,93].…”
