Diffusion and adoption of Linked Data among libraries

Abstract: Through content analyses of literature about the Linked Data (LD) adoption of individual libraries, this study found that the diffusion of LD among libraries is a decentralized process with high‐degree of reinvention and a continuous process that includes multiple stages and might last for many years. The diffusion of LD among libraries involves the diffusion of numerous related innovations, follows three paths (inter‐library, intra‐library, and inter‐librarian), and is facilitated by four types of institution… Show more

“…Landis (2019) expressed the need for positive and successful cases of LD use that could best support and motivate libraries to adhere to the Web of data principles. Niu (2020b) categorized the LD research and best practices in libraries into three types: The first type includes case studies regarding the implementation of LD technologies in individual libraries. The second type contains projects that aim to develop tools and standards for libraries. The third type comprises surveys about existing LD projects and recommends future directions. …”

“…Another similar initiative for publishing library data sets in the form of linked data is Library.Link Network. Niu (2020) surveyed the linked data technologies adopted by different types of libraries, categorized types of adoption and the diffusion of these technologies and then examined factors that play a role in the adoption and diffusion of linked data by libraries. Calaresu and Shiri's (2015) model looked at four layers of interaction between humans and information in the semantic web:…”
