Diffusion coefficients of atomic chlorine in inert molecules

Abstract: The time-decay chemiluminescence of reactive atomic species through their recombination reactions was employed to measure the diffusion coefficients of chlorine atoms in inert molecules: nitrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon tetrafluoride, and sulfur hexafluoride. The values of the diffusion constants were measured to be Z>C1_N2 = 0.230 ± 0.035, Z)C1_C02 = 0.190 ± 0.029, Dq_cf4= 0.132 ± 0.020, and Z)Ci-sf6 = 0.098 ±0.015 cm2 345/s, respectively, at 1 atm and 296 K.
