Digestible methionine+cysteine in the diet of commercial layers and its influence on the performance, quality, and amino acid profile of eggs and economic evaluation

Abstract: This work aimed at evaluating the effects of 4 digestible Met+Cys levels on the diet of commercial layers and their influence on the productive performance, quality, and amino acid profile of eggs and economic viability of the activity. A total of 576 white Lohmann LSL-Lite layers was distributed into 6 replicates of 24 birds for each diet. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 4 treatments defined by levels evaluated in the feed (0.465, 0.540, 0.581, and 0.647%). The productive performance w… Show more

“…Regarding internal egg quality, birds fed RP-Cit tended to have higher Haugh unit but lower shell breaking strength and lower shell thickness compared to other treatment groups in the current study. Carvalho et al (2018) pointed out that dietary AA requirement for egg production, eggshell, and egg internal quality could vary considerably. This fact might explain the contradictory effects of Cit supplementation on egg quality parameters in the current study.…”

“…These effects are mainly related to the source of amino acids in the feed. The addition of free Met or Cys to the diet of hens had no effect on the Met or Cys content of the egg (Csonka et al, 1947;Carvalho et al, 2018), but those in peptide bondage could increase their level in yolk (Csonka, 1950).…”

“…Likewise, EW was higher than that reported by Morales et al (2018b) (61.14-67.49 g) for Isa Brown SCLH of 76-96 weeks old. The highest methionine content (about 5%) can be found in albumins, mainly egg albumin, which is one reason for its high demand in poultry (Carvalho et al, 2018).…”
