Digestion in Insects, Colorimetric Analysis of Chromic Oxide Used to Study Food Utilization by Phytophagous Insects

Abstract: Previous preparations of the titled compounds did not have the structures represented and were inactive as lures for the medfly Ceratitis capitata (Weidemann). The compounds now prepared have the proper structures and are very attractive to the medfly. Table II. “…Fecal samples were collected 5.5 h after feeding by the stripping technique (Austreng ). Chromic oxide concentrations were determined as described by McGinnis and Kasting (). The absorbance was read on a spectrophotometer (Spectronic Genesys 5, Milton Roy Co., Rochester, NY, USA) at 540 nm, after colorimetric reaction.…”

“…Shrimp were offered four feedings per day. Feces obtained after the first feeding were discarded to Downloaded by [University of Nebraska, Lincoln] at 23:50 07 October 2015 and Kasting (1964) in which, after a colorimetric reaction, absorbance was read on a spectrophotometer (Spectronic Genesys 5, Milton Roy, Rochester, New York) at 540 nm. Protein was determined by micro-Kjeldahl analysis (Ma and Zuazago 1942).…”
