Digital Twin Approach for Solving Reconfiguration Planning Problems in RMS

Abstract: Reconfigurable Manufacturing System (RMS) appeared as a solution to high variation in customer demands allowing manufacturers to satisfy different amount of demands in different period. RMS satisfies demands by rapidly reconfiguring its hardware and software components, in order to quickly adjust its production capacity and functionality within a part family in response to sudden market changes or intrinsic system change depends on the demand of every single period. This reconfiguration process brings a critic… Show more

“…By evaluating the analyses it could be determined that with regard to the building life cycle phases, the operation phase offers the least attention in the literature and thus very few approaches for updating digital building models of existing buildings. This finding is very surprising, since in production-related buildings such as factories exists an enormous need for up-to-date data (Kurniadi et al 2018) and, thus, also up-to-date building models (Bartels 2020;Terkaj et al 2015). In factory planning, up-to-date digital building models are required in order to support conversion processes at short notice (Terkaj et al 2015;Melcher et al 2018;Volk et al 2014;Buede und Miller 2016).…”

“…The efficiency and effectiveness of reconfiguration planning are some of the most important issues in RMSs [43]. Regarding the reconfigurable fixturing planning for the trimming operation of thin shell parts, its basic task is to transfer the information of the desired model into the location information of the reconfigurable fixture, but the parallel and very different requirements of location accuracy and holding stability throughout the whole process of trimming make the decision making of deterministic locating thorny.…”
