Dihydroquercetin, the Bioactive Substance, to Be Used Against Pathogenic Microorganisms as an Alternative to Antibiotics

Abstract: A b s t r a c tAccording to WHO reports, since 2000 a microorganism resistance to antimicrobials has become a serious threat to global public health. Thereby, more strict control for used antibiotics and novel antibacterial substances are considered helpful. Of that, the development of new antimicrobial compounds seems to be most perspective, seeing the high yielding animals are much more susceptible to diseases, and animal products are poorly stored because of microbial contamination. Among compounds possessi… Show more

“…Antibiotics play key role in the treatment of diseases, helping human beings to reduce the mortality rate of various infections, and significantly improving people's quality of life and life expectancy [92]. Moreover, antibiotics have been widely used as adjuvant drugs in the process of surgical treatment, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy of cancers due to their anti-infection and anticancer effects [93].…”

“…Effectiveness of clinical mastitis treatment depends on immune resistance of an animal, infection duration and bacterial genotypes of a causative agent [26]. For selection of a treatment regimen and mastitis prevention measures in cows it is important to study the mechanism of antibiotic resistance and spreading of infection caused by S. aureus [27][28][29][30].…”

“…petals [11], the goji berry (Lycium barbarum) dried fruits and pu mpkin powder [12] and others have been investigated for benefiting food stability. Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) is capable of donating an electron and as such, inhibits hydroxy l rad icals [13]. DHQ is a powerfu l antioxidant that deactivates alkylpero xy l and superoxide rad icals, reduces haemolysis induced by phospholipase C and inhibits superoxide produced by xanthine o xidase [14].…”

Dihydroquercetin is a proven antio xidant, capillary p rotector with hepatoprotective, gastroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antisclerotic, radioprotective, anti-coagulant, anti-inflammatory properties and inhib its the LDLcholesterol o xidation in b lood serum [13]. Dihydroquercetin is often used for the prevention of o xidative stress and is well accepted as a treatment for select carcino mas, and cardiovascular and liver diseases [13].…”
