ARTICLE INFODictionaries are sources that have been used for enriching individuals' vocabulary since ancient times. Dictionaries are used in the Turkish course text processing process when needed. The aim of this study is to raise awareness about the use of dictionaries by introducing middle school students to dictionaries. For this purpose, a dictionary reading activity was carried out with middle school fourth grade students during the free reading time of Turkish lesson. In the dictionary reading activities, it was aimed for students to take a short trip around the world of their dictionaries and to develop their vocabulary by learning new words in this way. Qualitative research method case study design was used in the study. The study group of the research consists of nineteen middle school fourth grade students determined through easily accessible situation sampling. In the study, the data were obtained through observation, interview and document analysis and subjected to content analysis. At the end of the study, it was concluded that dictionary reading time improved students' vocabulary, improved speaking and writing skills, and made it easier to understand and express. In addition, it was concluded that the dictionary reading hour practice was an instructive, entertaining and motivating work. Various suggestions were made in the light of the findings of the study.
