Palynology and palynofacies of the Middle Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous successions of northwest Egypt

“…Hystrichosphaerina orbifera has been described in middle Oxfordian in south Germany by Klement (1960), Brenner (1988), and Denmark (Poulsen 1996). Systematophora areolata was recorded from late Oxfordian-early Kimmeridgian of England (Thomas and Cox 1988) and north Eastern Desert (Ibrahim et al 2002). This zone can be correlated with the late Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian Gonyaulacysta jurassica Interval Zone (Raafat et al 2021) in north Western Desert, late Oxfordian Assemblage Zone of El Beialy and Ibrahim (1997) of north Sinai, Egypt.…”

“…Pseudoceratium pelliferum is regarded as the most important marker species of Hauterivian age; Bujak and Williams (1978) (Ibrahim and Schrank 1996) in north Western Desert, Egypt. It is matched with the lower part of Zone III of Ibrahim et al (2002) in north Eastern Egypt, Barremian Assemblage Zone 3 (Berthou and Leereveld 1990) in Portugal, and the early Berriasian-late Hauterivian Assemblage Zone in Libya (Thusu et al 1988).…”
