Diode-Pumped Ho-Doped KLu(WO4)2Laser at 2.08 µm

Abstract: We report on the efficient continuous-wave diode-pumped laser operation of Ho in the monoclinic KLu(WO 4 ) 2 crystal at 2080 nm, resonantly pumped at a wavelength of 1941 nm by a fiber-coupled GaSb diode stack. A maximum output power of 408 mW and a slope efficiency of 54.5% with respect to the absorbed pump power were achieved. A comparison of the laser performance within the Ho-doped KRE(WO 4 ) 2 (Ho:KRE(WO 4 ) 2 ) family of monoclinic crystals showed a slightly superior performance of Ho:KY(WO 4 ) 2 , achie… Show more

“…This work is continuation of our spectroscopic studies of Ho:KLuW [11] and Ho:KGdW [12] crystals, as well as laser studies of these crystals under resonant pumping either by a Tm laser [13,14] or GaSb laser diodes [15]. Intracavity-pumping of the isostructural Ho:KLuW laser was reported in [16].…”

“…:KLuW nanocrystals were synthesized by the modified Pechini Method, which has been applied already successfully to prepare monoclinic KREW nanocrystals [14]. Previous results of our group shows the generation of white light generation from a triply doped KLuW single crystal with the optimized molar concentrations as 1:2:2 [15], and specifically in this work: 0.5% at Ho, 1% at. Tm and 1% at.…”

“…In this Letter, we show the best slope efficiency and the maximal output power ever reported in holmiumdoped KYW, as far as we know. In fact, [18] reported a slope efficiency of almost 59%, with a maximum of 438 mW, for a pumping wavelength at 1941 nm in the same material, cut along the N g axis. In [19] the researchers report a maximal output power of 648 mW and slope efficiency of 55%, for a pumping wavelength of 1946 nm (for a holmium-doped KLuW crystal cut along N g ).…”
