“…Among 51 carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii strains, 49 showed a signal at 40,279 ± 87 m/z, whereas four out of 15 carbapenem-susceptible strains showed a signal at the same m/z. The sensitivity and specificity were 96 and 73% in comparison to the microdilution imipenem susceptibility testing, which provides MIC determination (Chang et al, 2018).…”

“…An extended-spectrum class C beta-lactamase from A. baumannii was recently identified ( m/z ~40,279) as a biomarker for carbapenem resistance. The sensitivity and specificity of the method were 96% and 73%, respectively, compared with the microdilution imipenem susceptibility testing method [ 103 ]. An 11,109-Da peak was identified by MALDI-TOF MS to distinguish the protein patterns of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing and non-KPC-producing K. pneumoniae strains [ 104 ].…”

“…A more elaborate sample preparation of periplasmic proteins allowed the detection of CMY-2 cephalosporinases ( m/z 39,850) in various Enterobacteriaceae, however, not in all strains positive for CMY-2 by reference methods (Papagiannitsis et al, 2014). With a sample preparation using detonation nanodiamonds, Chang et al (2018) were able to detect carbapenemases in Acinetobacter baumannii isolates ( m/z ∼40,279 ± 87), although 4 out of 15 susceptible strains showed also a signal in this mass range. With a moderately complex sample preparation procedure, Espinosa et al (2018) achieved the detection of CMY-2 carbapenemases ( m/z 39,800) in E. coli by MALDI-TOF MS.…”
