“…Their simultaneous presence also enables the production of whitelight-emitting diodes as the f-f emission lines of Tb 3+ cover the entire spectrum in the visible region with a main optical transition in green [9,13], while Eu 3+ emit in red [14,15] or orangered spectral ranges [16]. For third fundamental color (blue) can be obtained from the ZnO matrix or by the insertion of other rare-earth ions such as Tm 3+ [17], and Pr 3+ [18].…”

“…28) Bachir et al found that the blue luminescence from Tm-ZnO LEDs was only at 480 nm, which corresponds to the 1 G 4 -3 H 6 transition. 29) Blue luminescence from 1 D 2 -3 F 4 transition of Tm is not observed in Tm-ZnO, Tm-GaN and Tm-ZnS LEDs, but appeared in Tm-Ga 2 O 3 LEDs. This is reasonable, because Ga 2 O 3 has a wider bandgap which can accommodate higher energy levels of Tm ions and provide a larger energy difference between hot electrons in the conduction band and the Tm excited states.…”
