Direct measurement of hepatic indocyanine green clearance with near-infrared spectroscopy: Separate evaluation of uptake and removal

Abstract: We continuously measured hepatic absorbance of in-and exclusive biliary excretion with neither intradocyanine green (ICG) using near-infrared (NIR) spec-hepatic conjugation nor enterohepatic circulation.1,2 troscopy after intravenous bolus injection in rabbits. He-Conventionally, ICG has been used as a test substance patic ICG concentration was obtained by subtracting for the estimation of hepatic blood flow, as measured out the absorbance of hemoglobin and other pigments by plasma clearance determined from th… Show more

“…The release of ICG from cells is due to cytoplasmic and biliary excretion mechanisms. Furthermore, excretion relies on the membrane potentialdependent transport system established by an ATP-utilizing pump (24).…”

“…Experimental scheme followed for the labeling with indocyanine green (ICG), imaging, and protein analysis of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and cardiomyocytes. Representative optical images of ICG-labeled hESCs in 1 ml of KSR using the optimized labeling protocol (2.0 mg ICG/ml, 60-min incubation) at different time points after labeling (1,24,48,72,96, and 120 h) showing decreasing fluorescent signal over time. The three rows represent triplicates.…”

“…The use and validation of this technology in evaluating hepatic function in liver transplant recipients have been described elsewhere. 6,[8][9][10] The DDG-2001 analyzer constructs a dye densitogram (graphical representation) of serum ICG-PDR with a noninvasive optical pulse-spectrometry nasal probe. This graph of ICG-PDR is actually a decay curve, with the slope designated as k. Thus, k represents the rate of disappearance of ICG from the blood as the liver extracts it from the circulation.…”
