Direct TEM observation of the “acanthite α-Ag2S–argentite β-Ag2S” phase transition in a silver sulfide nanoparticle

Abstract: For the first time, the a-Ag 2 S (acanthite)-b-Ag 2 S (argentite) phase transition in a single silver sulfide nanoparticle has been observed in situ using a high-resolution transmission electron microscopy method in real time. Colloid solutions of Ag 2 S nanoparticles and nanostructured powders of silver sulfide have been synthesized by one-stage chemical bath deposition from an aqueous solution of silver nitrate, sodium sulfide and sodium citrate. Ag 2 S nanoparticles were heated to different temperatures dir… Show more

“…1(c 111), (À112), (À121), (121), (À103), (200), and (À131) diffraction planes (Ag 2 S, #JCPDF 00-014-0072), respectively. 21,22 In the XRD pattern of CNTs, the observed peaks at 25.919, 42.959, and 53.29 were assigned to (002), (100), and (004) diffraction planes (CNTs, #JCPDF 00-058-1638), respectively. Moreover, the XRD peak intensity of CNT-ANs increased with an increase in NP precursors indicating that the crystallinity of Ag 2 S was improved.…”

“…[ 10,11] Therefore, it is of great significance to study 2D TMCs, [12,13] especially as SA to achieve pulsed laser. [14][15][16][17][18] At present, many outstanding nano materials such as semiconductor saturable absorption mirror (SESAM), graphene, black phosphorus (BP), topological insulators (TI), carbon nanotube (CNT), bismuthene, gold nanoparticles, MXene, chalcogenides, graphdiyne (GD), metal organic frameworks (MOFs), inorganic semiconductors, metal oxides, heterojunctions as SAs have been extensively studied, but they also have some shortcomings. [19] For example, graphene has no adjustable bandgap structure, so its application is greatly limited.…”

“…The temperature of 120 °C used in the deposition of Ag 2 S QDs on the silicon surface was selected in order to preserve the phase structure of the Ag 2 S monoclinic crystal lattice. The Ag 2 S phase transition from a monoclinic modification to a cubic body-centered (bcc) occurs at a temperature of 176 °C [ 46 ], which is significantly higher than the values used by us. That is confirmed by XRD analysis ( Figure 1 , Curves 1′–3’).…”
