Abstract:The vast number of poorly characterised enzymes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is one of the key barriers precluding a better understanding of the biology that underpins pathogenesis. Here, we investigated the Mtb orphan enzyme Rv2498c to delineate its physiological role. Our results from in vitro enzymatic assays, phylogenetic analysis, X-ray crystallography and in vivo Mtb experiments, de-orphan Rv2498c as a multi-functional βhydroxyacyl-CoA lyase/thioesterase (β-HAClyase/thioesterase) that participates… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
