Discovery of the Drosophila (Drosophila) robusta species group (Diptera, Drosophilidae) from Southeast Asian tropics, with the descriptions of six new species

Abstract: Six new species of the Drosophila robusta species group are described from Southeast Asian Islands. Kalimantan and Sunda Islands lie east of Bali, from which Drosophila barobusta sp.nov and D. uncinata sp.nov belong to the lacertosa subgroup, and D. sungaicola sp.nov, D. baliensis sp.nov, D. hitam sp.nov and D. subaquatica sp.nov to the okadai subgroup. The robusta group from Southeast Asian tropics exclusively inhabits streamsides in mountainous highlands with an elevation of more than 600 m from the sea leve… Show more

“…Habitat. This species coexists with D. potamophila and D. beppui of the same group and D. sungaicola, D. barobusta and D. hitam of the robusta group reported by Suwito and Watabe (2010), inhabiting streamsides at highlands (>1038 m a.s.l.) with relatively cool climates from West Sumatra to East Java.…”

“…The Indobiosys Project in [2015][2016][2017] (cooperation between Research Center for Biology-LIPI and Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Germany) also conducted research on invertebrate biodiversity of GHSNP (Cancian de Araujo et al 2017Araujo et al , 2018Hilgert et al 2019: Nurinsiyah et al 2019b). Although research on biodiversity in the national park have been conducted for consecutive years, researchers still reveal interesting findings for instance new records and new species (Kamitani et al 2011;Kamitani et al 2012;Ng & Wowor 2018;Nurinsiyah & Hausdorf 2017;Suwito & Watabe 2010;Suwito et al 2013;Toda et al 2020;Wowor & Ng 2019;Yang et al 2017).…”
