Diseño y validación de una escala para la medición de la dedicación al cuidado en personas cuidadoras de mayores dependientes (DeCuida)

Abstract: The scale allows a suitable measure of caregiving dedication regarding activities of daily living in caregivers of older people, because this scale allows a quickly, easy administration, is well accepted by caregivers, has acceptable psychometric results and includes the frequency of caregiving, the kind of attended need and the dependence level in each need.

“…Behavioural symptoms were assessed with the Spanish version of the Neuropsychiatric Inventory 36 validated by Vilalta‐Franch et al 37 (Cronbach's alpha: 0.82) evaluating frequency and severity of behavioural symptoms. Intensity of care was measured using the DeCuida questionnaire designed and validated by Serrano‐Ortega et al 38 (Cronbach's alpha: 0.86). This questionnaire assessed frequency of care provided and level of dependency of the care recipient on each need attended to.…”

“…Sex (male/female) and objective caregiver burden were assessed as covariates. Objective caregiver burden was assessed by intensity of care provision (frequency and complexity), measured by the DeCuida Questionnaire (Serrano‐Ortega et al., 2015), comprising 10 questions corresponding to Barthel Index items (Mahoney & Barthel, 1965). Intensity of care for each need was calculated by multiplying the dependency level (theoretical score of the Barthel Index minus the real score) by the frequency of care for each need (0 = never to 5 = always), with total score ranging from 0 to 100 (Cronbach's alpha = 0.86).…”

“…Las dos fuerzas que lo explican son la caída de la fecundidad y el avance de la longevidad, provocando esta última un aumento de las enfermedades crónico degenerativas y, consecuentemente de la dependencia. Se puede entender por "dependencia" el hecho de no poder valerse por sí mismo en algún grado (Serrano-Ortega, Frías-Osunaa, Recio-Gómez, & Del-Pino-Casado, 2015).…”
