Dismembered extravesical reimplantation of ectopic ureter in duplex kidney with incontinence

Abstract: Ectopic ureter is a rare but pertinent cause of incontinence in young women. We report a 12-year-old girl who presented with reports of incontinence since birth. She was evaluated and found to have complete duplication of the left ureter, with the upper moiety ureter opening into the vestibule of the vagina just below the external urethra meatus. She was managed surgically by dismembered extravesical reimplantation of the upper moiety ureter instead of the conventional method of common sheath reimplantation, s… Show more

“…All unit of the urine volume was unified to mL and other measurements to mg/day to reduce the heterogeneity and make it easier to be calculated and analyzed. The classifications of BMI were summarized into two groups: BMI < 25 and BMI ≥ 25 kg/m 2 according to the guidelines of the Cochrane Collaboration ( 37 ). The data were extracted and analyzed, including in subgroups based on sex (male or female) and geographic region (Asia, North America, or Europe).…”

“…The same limitations apply to intravenous pyelography (2) . In this spectrum, contrast computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are today the most effective imaging methods to rule out or confirm the diagnosis of ureteral ectopy due to greater accuracy (7) . Magnetic resonance imaging provides additional information on the anatomy of the urinary tract, facilitating the recognition and characterization of adjacent genitourinary anomalies in children with renal hypofunctioning and ureteral ectopia (9) .…”

“…Imaging tests are mandatory to confirm the diagnosis of duplicity associated with ureteral ectopy (2) . Although ultrasonography remains the test used for an initial evaluation (6) , contrast computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are the most effective methods to rule out or confirm the presence of ectopic ureter (7) . Despite confirmation by tomography, differential diagnoses such as overactive bladder should be eliminated (2) .…”

“…O diagnóstico de ureter ectópico entre pacientes do sexo feminino é realizado de forma precoce ainda na infância, apresentandose como um constante gotejamento de urina através da genitália externa (5,1) . A tomografia computadorizada com contraste e a ressonância magnética constituem os métodos mais eficazes para descartar ou confirmar a presença de ureter ectópico (6) . Diagnósticos diferenciais como bexiga hiperativa devem ser eliminados (2) .…”
