Disparate clinicopathological correlations of p53 and Bcl-2 in colorectal cancer

Abstract: Abstract. p53 and Bcl-2 (both regulators of cell apoptosis) have been considered to be involved in the initiation and progression of the colorectal tumorigenic process, respectively. In this study, we investigated their association with tumor stage and grade -both substantially affecting prognosis. Immunohistochemical assessment of p53 and Bcl-2 was retrospectively conducted (using DO-7 and Ca-124 monoclonal antibodies, respectively) in 119 surgically resected colorectal carcinomas, and the results were correl… Show more

“…In colorectal cancer, reduced Apaf1 expression was found to be associated with tumor progression and adverse prognosis [25, 43]. High co-expression of Bcl2 and p53 proteins was found to be associated with poor prognosis in colorectal cancer [44], gastric MALT lymphoma [45] and B cell lymphoma [45, 46]. Piris et al .…”

“…Results of surgical resection for advanced cancer are still poor, therefore the search for predictors of disease survival and identification of molecular markers is mandatory (3, 4). The most powerful predictors and guides to treatment in CRC are tumor stage and stage-independent factors including histologic grade, microscopic tumor type, vascular invasion, and surgical margins (1).…”
