Dispersion characteristics of various contents of nano‐TiO2 and its effect on the properties of cement‐based composite

Abstract: Effect of nano‐TiO2 on the compressive strength and permeability of cement paste was studied, and the mechanism was revealed through investigating the hydration evolution and hydration products distribution of cement containing various contents of nano‐TiO2. Hydration Heat of cement, microstructure and pore structure of cement paste indicated that nano‐TiO2 could act as “nuclear” to accelerate the cement hydration, and this acceleration effect strengthened upon the nano‐TiO2 content at early age while reversed… Show more

“…n-TiO 2 takes the advantage of its size to organize themselves in a close-packing dense arrangement thereby filling the voids and reducing the porosity and permeability [18]. Liu et al [19] observed the n-TiO 2 concrete microstructure and reported the optimum conditions for the dispersion of n-TiO 2 . Behfarnia et al [20] reported n-TiO 2 replacement up to 4% showing optimum dispersion and improving the pore structure of the concrete.…”

“…1% replacement showed best performance with respect to durability and increase in n-TiO 2 increased the amount of water absorption in the presence of fly ash. Liu et al [19] studied the effect of n-TiO 2 (0.5, 1 and 3% replacement) on the compressive strength and permeability of the cement paste. Compression test showed that replacement of cement by 1% by weight increased the strength when compared to the control mix.…”

“…Many researchers have combined the properties of concrete with nanomaterials [3,4]. Recent results have shown that the addition of nanoparticles, including nano-SiO 2 , nano-ZrO 2 , nano-Fe 3 O 4 , nano-TiO 2 , and nano-Al 2 O 3 , can lead to the reconstitution of the pore structure of concrete and effectively improve its mechanical properties and durability [5][6][7][8]. Nano-SiO2 added at the specified concentration not only increases the strength of the concrete but also acts as a cement replacement material [9].…”
