Disrupted functional connectivity of striatal sub-regions in Bell's palsy patients

Abstract: The striatum plays an important role in controlling motor function in humans, and its degeneration has the ability to cause severe motor disorders. More specifically, previous studies have demonstrated a disruption in the connectivity of the cortico-striatal loop in patients suffering from motor disorders caused by dopamine dysregulation, such as Parkinson's disease. However, little is known about striatal functional connectivity in patients with motor dysfunction not caused by dopamine dysregulation. In this … Show more

“…Seed-to-voxel correlational analyses were calculated by applying the functional connectivity (CONN) toolbox v17.C (http://www.nitrc.org/projects/conn) in MATLAB (Mathworks, Inc., Natick, MA, USA), similar to our previous studies (Egorova et al, 2015; Liu et al, 2016, Liu et al, 2019; Song et al, 2017; Tao et al, 2017a). The preprocessing included slice-timing, realignment, coregistration to subjects' respective structural images, normalization, and smoothing with an 8-mm FWHM kernel.…”

“…Similar to our previous studies ( Liu et al, 2016 ; Wang et al, 2016 #4392; Song et al, 2017 ; Tao et al, 2017 ; Tao et al, 2016 ; Wang et al, 2017 ), functional connectivity analysis was carried out by applying a seed-based approach using the CONN toolbox ( Whitfield-Gabrieli and Nieto-Castanon, 2012 ) [ http://www.nitrc.org/projects/conn ]. Bilateral NAc templates extracted from the IBASPM (atlas71) using WFU-Pick Atlas software ( Maldjian et al, 2003 ) were selected as the seed (region of interest).…”

“…Post hoc t -tests were conducted to identify differences between every pair of groups. False discovery rate (FDR) correction was used for multiple comparison correction in the voxel-based fMRI statistical map analyses, with a threshold of 0.05 ( Song et al, 2017 ).…”
