Disseminated coccidioidomycosis in an American soldier in Europe

Abstract: A 25-year-old black man had a 7-month history of draining chest wall abscesses. Potassium hydroxide examination of abscess drainage revealed numerous spherules with doubly refractile walls. Although uncommon, a diagnosis of nonendemic coccidioidomycosis should be considered in cases of atypical cutaneous infections in highly mobile persons.
