Dissemination of News in the Spanish Baroque

Abstract: This text analyses the dissemination of news in the Spanish language throughout Europe during the seventeenth century, with attention given to the principal strategies put into effect by printers, publishers, entrepreneurs and newsmongers for printed newssheets. “…The history of the Gazeta de Amsterdam was summarily explained in a couple of articles published in 2012 (Díaz Noci, 2002 and2012) so this paper is addressed to provide more details on the creation, development and historical context of this newspaper, and of some other journalistic initiatives related to it, like the Italianlanguage Gazzetta d'Amsterdam. We will base our work on new recently found items of both newspapers, which can help to complete the facts we know about an active Jewish printer and editor, they are a modest step forward towards a better knowledge of the Spanish-language journalism of the period, and a bibliographical contribution to shed some more light on the catalogue of a couple of newspapers published in Early Modern Europe.…”
