Distal third humeri fractures treated using the Synthes™ 3.5-mm extra-articular distal humeral locking compression plate: clinical, radiographic and patient outcome scores

Abstract: The present study reports satisfactory outcome with the usage of the Synthes plate for extra-articular fracture management. It has become the technique of choice in our centre because it provides excellent results.

“…There are three domains which include elbow function, pain, and social-psychological with values ranging from 0 (greatest severity) to 100 (least severity). The OES has been used in trauma populations [23][24][25][26]. It was reported that the OES performed well in assessing elbow surgical outcomes while the DASH was not responsive enough to warrant its exclusive use as an outcome of elbow surgery [27].…”

“…Similar findings were seen in previous studies where they found that mean operative time and blood loss was less. 9,10 According to Mayo Elbow Performance Score. Score of > 90 was considered as excellent and score of 75-89 was considered as good.…”

“…Therefore, operative stabilization of these fractures is rational and is favoured by many authors. [5][6][7][8][9][10] Jawa et al 3 11 This index consists of four parts-pain (with a maximum score of 45 points), ulnohumeral motion (20 points), stability (10 points) and the ability to perform five functional tasks (25 points). Present study was conducted to compare single extra articular humerus plating and bipillar plating for distal humerus fracture.…”

“… 15 In another study Synthes® anatomic precontoured 3.5 mm j plate used for fixation of humerus distal 1/3 extraarticular fractures, excellent results were obtained and they reported that there was no loss of fixation or olecranon impingement using this system. 24 The distal part of the distal medial tibia plate used in this study has a cobra shape and offers the possibility of placing 3.5 mm eight screws to the distal part of humerus. The distally extending portion of the implant is compatible with the posterior surface of the humerus, which allows for the placement of bicortical multiple screws in a limited area between the fracture line and the olecranon fossa.…”
