The tibial nerve is bound tightly to the posterior tibial artery in the tarsal tunnel where expansion capacity is limited. Therefore, the nerve may be vulnerable to, and damaged by chronic pulsatile trauma from an atypically positioned overriding artery, labeled “punched-nerve syndrome”.
