Abstract:Water-rock reactions and their products in asteroids are simulated by hydrological, geochemical, and spectral models.• C-type asteroids with ammoniated phyllosilicates possibly formed beyond the NH 3 and CO 2 snow lines and differentiated.• Carbonaceous chondrites can originate from rock-dominated inner cores of the differentiated bodies.
