Distillation of free entanglement from bound entangled states using weak measurements

Abstract: We propose a scheme for distillation of free bipartite entanglement from bipartite bound-entangled states. The crucial element of our scheme is an ancillary system that is coupled to the initial bound-entangled state via appropriate weak measurements. We show that in this protocol free entanglement can be always generated with nonzero probability by using a single copy of the bound-entangled state. We also derive a lower bound on the entanglement cost of the protocol and conclude that, on average, applying wea… Show more

“…criterion is in vain, there can exist entangled states that are positive after this operation, but such states are not distillable [9]. Recently, a transformation in the type of its entanglement from bound (free) to free (bound) has been demonstrated [10][11][12]. In the bipartite systems case, both unitary and nonunitary evolution of bound entangled states may give rise to the birth of free entanglement [13,14].…”

“…Derkacz and Jakóbczyk demonstrated the revivals of distillable entanglement for two identical three-level atoms coupled to the common vacuum [31][32][33]. Besides, Baghbanzadeh et al [34] discussed a quantum phase transition can be accompanied by a change from bound entanglement to free entanglement under decoherence channels and demonstrated distillation of free entangled states from bound entangled states by using weak measurements [35].…”

“…Recently a transformation between bound entanglement and free entanglement has been demonstrated under differen decoherence channels [27][28][29]. With these previous studies in mind, we naturally ask the question does there exist distillability sudden birth after a specific family of Horodecki states undergoes distillability sudden death?…”

“…Some recent studies found that bound entangled states can be used in quantum information theory with some free entanglement [18][19][20][21]. After that, a variety of research works have been conducted on dynamical analysis, distillation, and activation of bound entangled states [22][23][24][25][26]. These research works involve a variety of methods for detecting and measuring entanglements.…”
