Es wurde festgestellt, dass im zytoplasmaaktiven Typ der Meningiome eine bis zu zwei Grössenordnungen höhere Aktivität der alkalischen Phosphatase als im gefässaktiven Typ vorliegt. Das Enzym des Zytoplasmas der Tumorzellen entspricht in allen untersuchten Eigenschaften (pH-Optimum, Michaeliskonstante, Hitzestabilität, Inhibition durch L-Phenylalanin, relative Aktivität gegenüber verschiedenen Substraten, Agar- und Stärkegelelektrophorese) den Enzymen aus der Leptomeninx und dem Plexus chorioideus. Es wird angenommen, dass die starke Aktivität im zytoplasmaaktiven Typ in einer im Tumor erhaltenen Eigenschaft seiner Ursprungszellen begründet ist, da diese ebenfalls einen hohen Gehalt an alkalischer Phosphatase aufweisen. Als Ursache des Fehlens einer Aktivität im Zytoplasma eines Teiles der Meningiome wird eine im Verlauf der Tumorprogression eingetretene Enzymdeletion angesehen.

Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase (LAP) from cord blood was characterized by means of acrylamide gel disc electrophoresis, eneuraminidase sensitivity, heat inactivation, L-phenylalanine and L-homoargÍnine in hibition and EDTA inactivation. No differences were found between the LAP of cord blood and that of children in acrylamide gel disc electrophoresis, neuraminidase sensitivity, heat inactivation and L-homoarginine inhibition. Acrylamide gel disc electrophoresis of the agarose purified enzyme and EDTA inhibition studies suggest that the increase of LAP in cord blood depends on an increase of the catalytic efficiency of the enzyme.
