Distinguish coherence resonance and stochastic resonance in bearing fault evaluation

Abstract: Similar to the famous stochastic resonance (SR), coherence resonance (CR) is an ordered dynamic behavior induced by the noise in a nonlinear system. Inspired by the dynamical characteristics of CR, the importance of distinguishing CR and SR in bearing fault evaluation is presented. It solves the problem that the characteristic frequency cannot be determined when using the SR for bearing fault diagnosis. The general scale transformation is introduced to process the vibration signal further to realize adaptive C… Show more

“…In bearing fault diagnosis, however, the fault feature always shows to be relatively high-frequency compared to GSR frequency mentioned above. Thus, it is necessary to apply the GST method [20,25,26,39], and the coefficient R is introduced to perform variable substitutions in equation (3):…”

“…The diagnosis performance depends on the system output, which can be regulated by system parameters, i.e. ω, σ, λ, and R. With regarding to multi-parameter optimization problem, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) has been proved to be effective [20,26,39,43]. It is a stochastic optimization algorithm that mimics the swarming behavior of insects, animals, birds, fish, etc.…”

“…In the past decade, a broad spectrum of SR methods with arbitrary frequency parameters has been developed for the fault diagnosis of mechanical systems, such as parameter tuning [21], rescaling frequency [22], variable step size [23], frequency shift, rescaling [24], and multi-scale noise tuning [25]. Therefore, the SR method has been widely applied in the field of bearing fault information extraction [26][27][28].…”

“…The SR system has been an attractive topic in the field of weak signal detection, especially early mechanical fault diagnosis. Yang et al [10] introduced the concept of coherent resonance (CR), an ordered dynamic behavior similar to SR, and by distinguishing CR and SR, a bearing fault can be diagnosed successfully. Zhang et al [11] proposed a piecewise unsaturated asymmetric tristable SR system on early bearing fault diagnosis.…”
