National parks are natural conservation areas that have native ecosystems, managed with a zoning system that is used for research, science, education, tourism, cultivation and recreation purposes. Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK) is one of Indonesia's national parks, located on the western tip of Java Island, Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province. The various kinds of ecosystems in Ujung Kulon National Park are a habitat for various endemic animals or those with a protected and endangered conservation status. However, climate change and poaching that have occurred over the years, land transfers, and climate change have created distinct threats to the preservation of fauna in this region. One of the efforts to preserve the environment in and around TNUK is to carry out in-depth research on habitat conditions and the diversity of species present inside the area. This research aims to obtain information on the diversity of fauna in the TNUK and identify the various types of fauna found in the TNUK area. Fauna's diversity information was carried out in September 2022 by exploring areas in Cilintang to Legon Pakis with a total distance of 9.7 km. The study found the diversity of fauna, and there are nine species of large mammals, seven species of herpetofauna (amphibian reptiles), 13 species of butterflies, and 30 species of avifauna (aves).

The estimation of mammal species loss and gain from shrubs to oil palm plantations in South Sumatera

Several previous studies stated that land cover changes to oil palm plantations caused the loss of wildlife species, one of which was from the mammals. Therefore, data on the magnitude of this type of loss is needed. This study estimates the amount of loss and gain of mammal species due to the development of oil palm plantations. Data were taken by direct observation (strip transect method) in parallel at the oil palm plantation of PT. Rambang Agro Jaya, South Sumatra. This research was conducted on the land cover before (shrubs) and after the development of oil palm plantations. The study shows that the change from shrubs to oil palm plantations does not change the number of mammal species but increases the species richness index and decreases the species richness index. The similarity index of shrubs and oil palm plantation is 0.56. The development of oil palm plantations also causes the loss and gain of mammal species with the same percentage of 67%. The presence of mammals in oil palm plantation is thought to be due to the feed availability.

Mangrove merupakan tumbuhan yang banyak ditemukan didaerah pantai dan sekitar muara sungai. Mangrove merupakan salah satu ekosistem yang ada di perairan. Mangrove memiliki produktivitas tinggi dibandingkan dengan ekosistem lain sehingga menjadikannya mata rantai ekologis yang sangat penting bagi kehidupan makhluk hidup yang berada di perairan sekitarnya. Primata adalah salah satu ordo dari kelas mamalia yang memiliki lebih dari 350 spesies di dunia. Kehadiran primata semakin berkurang akibat kondisi habitat yang mengalami penyusutan di kawasan aslinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jumlah populasi dan pola perilaku harian monyet ekor panjang ( Macaca fascicularis) di hutan mangrove kuala langsa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan menggunakan metode focal animal sampling dengan teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi lapangan dan analisis data menggunakan persentase frekuensi perilaku harian. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa jumlah populasi monyet ekor panjang (macaca fascicularis) berjumlah 165 ekor dengan kategori anakan sejumlah 53 ekor, remaja sejumlah 54 ekor, dewasa sejumlah 58 ekor dan pola perilaku harian yang peling sering dilakukan oleh monyet ekor panjang adalah perilaku bergerak, dan perilaku yang paling sedikit dilakukan adalah perilaku kawin.
