Distributed control strategy for DC microgrids based on average consensus and fractional‐order local controllers

Abstract: A novel distributed secondary layer control strategy based on average consensus and fractional-order proportional-integral (FOPI) local controllers is proposed for the regulation of the bus voltages and energy level balancing of the energy storage systems (ESSs) in DC microgrids. The distributed consensus protocol works based on an undirected sparse communication network. Fractional-order local controllers increase the degree of freedom in the tuning of closed-loop controllers, which is required for DC microgr… Show more

“…The FAPI controller has one more degree of freedom compared to conventional PI controllers because of the addition of the fractional term. This extra degree of freedom allows for further adjustment of the controller's performance [33]. The fractional-order adaptive PI (FAPI) controller takes advantage of the fractionalorder calculus [32] by introducing the fractional integrator in Figure 5 to better fit complex systems and improve the dynamic performance.…”

“…2) The deviation of voltages at PCC increases due to the droop action [18,19]. In study [20], a distributed control strategy based on fractional order local controller is proposed to achieve voltage regulation. Although the average voltage regulation is achieved accurately using the proposed strategy, a large number of communication links between agents is required.…”
