The anomalous magnetic dipole moment of muon (from now on called muon g – 2) is one of the precision measurements sensitive to new physics. Recent measurement, performed by the Muon g – 2 Collaboration of Fermilab, differs from the Standard Model (SM) value calculated by the Muon g – 2 Theory Initiative Group at the combined statistical significance of 5.1σ. Taking at face value, such discrepancy is caused by new physics. In this paper, we explain the discrepancy in the context of the two-Higgs-doublet model. We shall systematically classify every scenario that may induce muon g – 2. Their compatibility with relevant constraints, e.g. the oblique parameters and/or lepton-favor universality will also be discussed. We shall also show that the two-Higgs-doublet model can be extended to the Zee model, giving rise to radiative neutrino masses.

The Fermilab Muon 𝑔 − 2 Experiment was designed to measure the muon's anomalous magnetic moment 𝑎 𝜇 = (𝑔 − 2)/2 to 140 parts per billion. The value of 𝑎 𝜇 is proportional to the difference frequency 𝜔 𝑎 = 𝜔 𝑠 − 𝜔 𝑐 between the muon's cyclotron frequency and spin precession frequency in the uniform magnetic field of the 𝑔 −2 storage ring. The frequency 𝜔 𝑎 is extracted from the time distribution of the mu-decay positrons recorded by 24 electromagnetic calorimeters positioned around the inner circumference of the storage ring. We will discuss the various approaches to the frequency determination including the reconstruction, fitting of time distributions, and procedures for handling the effects of gain changes, positron pileup and beam dynamics. We also discuss the data consistency checks and the strategy for the averaging of 𝜔 𝑎 across the different analyses.

The equivalent representations for the hadronic vacuum polarization contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment a μ HVP in the presence of the quark flavour thresholds are studied. Specifically, the explicit relations between the contributions given by the integration over a finite kinematic interval to a μ HVP expressed in terms of the hadronic vacuum polarization function, Adler function, and the R-ratio of electron–positron annihilation into hadrons are derived. It is shown that the quark flavour thresholds of the hadronic vacuum polarization function generate additional contributions to a μ HVP expressed in terms of the Adler function and the R-ratio and the explicit expressions for such contributions are obtained. The commonly employed dispersion relations, which bind together hadronic vacuum polarization function, Adler function, and R-ratio, are extended to account for the effects due to the quark flavour thresholds. The examined additional contributions due to the heavy quark thresholds to a μ HVP expressed in terms of the R-ratio appear to be quite sizable, that can be of a particular relevance for the data-driven method of assessment of the hadronic part of the muon anomalous magnetic moment.
