Distributed Fault Detection for Interconnected Large-Scale Systems: A Scalable Plug & Play Approach

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel distributed fault detection method to monitor the state of a-possibly largescale-linear system, partitioned into interconnected subsystems. The approach hinges on the definition of a partition-based distributed Luenberger-like estimator, based on the local model of the subsystems and that takes into account the dynamic coupling between the subsystems. The proposed methodology computesin a distributed way-a bound on the variance of a properly defined residual signal. This bound… Show more

“…There is an urgent need to deal with the strong dynamics as well as the operating mode-dependent and non-stationary processes, especially in the plant-wide systems where multiple of the above-mentioned scenarios can simultaneously take place. If the complete system dynamics are known, a scalable plugand-play (PnP) approach to distributed fault detection is available for interconnected large-scale systems [91]. In [92],…”

“…The adaptive observer-based approach effectively estimated the actuator fault parameters at the presence of nonlinear interconnections. In [20], a distributed fault detection method was proposed to monitor the state of interconnected systems. The presented method allowed Plug & Play operations and the possibility to disconnect the faulty subsystem.…”

“…In some cases, the influence of attacks on a system can be similar to that of a fault, where a number of results have been presented on fault resilience for distributed systems. For instance, in Reference 27, the distributed fault detection and accommodation problem was addressed for uncertain nonlinear‐interconnected systems subject to faults. In Reference 28, a fault detection filter was constructed, which could detect the possible faults in heterogeneous multi‐agent systems.…”
