Distributed Service Framework: an innovative open ecosystem for ICT/Telecommunications

Abstract: In order to fuel new emerging service markets, next generation service delivery framework have to be based on an highly distributed and open architectures adopting innovative technologies capable of enabling features such as robustness, security, stability and scalability. The talk will elaborate on RT&D activities and results concerning a Distributed Service Framework (DSF) solution that has been designed as an innovative open ecosystem for ICT/ Telecommunications services. Specifically, the DSF architecture … Show more

“…Specifically CASCADAS has developed and experimentally validated a decentralized architecture of autonomic components, organized in overlays and abstracting network and service resources. The Autonomic Communication Element (ACE) is the novel key abstraction developed for the creation and exploitation of situation-aware and dynamically adaptable services [4]. Services of growing levels of abstraction, up to the scale of complex network services or effective autonomic systems, can be built through collections of ACEs that share locally available services to enable autonomous organization.…”

“…They put together resources sharing similar characteristics (e.g., all the resources which provide storage in a given geographical area) and are used to spread cooperation messages among the ACs in order to achieve global management policies. Moreover, they are adopted to structure the resources needed to deliver applications to a given individual/community/enterprise [4]: these application-specific overlays create a uniform computational and networking environment to decouple applications from actual pervasive resources and ease migration paths. Self-organization and self-differentiation mechanisms [5] are used to create and maintain these overlays, by self-adapting their configurations according to dynamically evolving conditions on available resources and network parameters.…”
