Distributed service‐level agreement management with smart contracts and blockchain

Abstract: Summary The current cloud market is dominated by a few providers, which offer cloud services in a take‐it‐or‐leave‐it manner. However, the dynamism and uncertainty of cloud environments may require the change over time of both application requirements and service capabilities. The current service‐level agreement (SLA) management solutions cannot easily guarantee a trustworthy, distributed SLA adaptation due to the centralized authority of the cloud provider who could also misbehave to pursue individual goals. … Show more

“…These discontinuities and weak implementations may raise adaptability issues and scalability difficulties. Recently, several Hyperledger technologies have worked on system interoperability; they try to cope with these issues and provide efficient solutions to connect to ensure maximum scalability and adaptability to enable intercommunication between the renewable energy sectors [41].…”

“…Nevertheless, the presented approach in this paper relies on an SLA intelligence mechanism that is declared beforehand between the customer and the provider, includes the Algorithmic Driver for the SLA computation procedure (later in Figure 2) and executes on-chain in the manner agreed by both sides. In addition, Uriarte et al [9] propose an SLA management framework that facilitates the specification and enforcement of dynamic SLAs in order to track and define the service parameter that render the SLAs to change over time. In their work, the presented two-level blockchain-based architecture manages to convert an SLA to its smart contract equivalent that dynamically guides service provisioning within the first level; on the second level of the architecture, their solution aims to generate objective measurements for the SLA assessment through a federation of monitoring entities that scales for multiple nodes.…”
